The end of a great war time general

Yes, its the end of a great war time general called Sourav Ganguly.
Better known as the "MAHARAJA" of the offside field. It was at the starting
of the new millennium when the Indian Cricket team were facing serious crisis
regarding the captaincy for the team. Sachin had called off as captain, we had
lost to Australia very badly and South Africa had crushed us on our home soil.
So the BCCI think tank took a bold decision rather a brave one to appoint Sourav
Ganguly as the captain of the Indian Cricket team.Who knew that it was the making of a great leader in disguise.

So, then what made the "Bengal Tiger" so special. From his
trademark cover drive shots to his special sixes, he made them all look so easy.
His timing with the bat was so good that even a suise watch could get embrassed by it.Aggression was the hallmark of his character as a captain. The tenacity to take bold decisions was a usual thing for him.So for some fine moments with the bat especially in the one day cricket games, his legacy as a captain is greater.

A new generation of cricketers had taken birth under his captaincy.During his reign as a captain India won many laurels and invariably changed the face of the Indian cricket. The exuburence of youth mixed with the likes of the fab four experienced players made the Indian cricket a tough team to beat.

The team reached its peak when they reached the 2003 World Cup Finals, but unfortunately could not convert that into a bigger one.Surely, the team will miss the experience & services of the so called "Dada" of the Indian Cricket team.
It is tempting to argue to the fact that he should have played much longer. But who knows what the future had for him in the store. His charisma will continue to inspire the up coming cricketers in the mere future. He is and will be considered as one of the best cricketers that the Indian team has ever produced.

So a fine batsmen has gone when still good, still scoring runs..
